This trekking route is designed for those who are looking for an extreme adventure in the wilderness of Kyrgyzstan.

The program includes exciting activities such as spending the night in a yurt, hiking in the Tien Shan Mountains through high mountain passes, paddling on a raft, spotting wildlife, discovering the historic sites of Kyrgyzstan, spending time with local families and much more.

Note: People taking part in this trip should be in good physical condition, accustomed to the mountains, resourceful and ready for limited comfort.

Day 1Bishkek – Chong Kemin (170 km)

Arrival in Bishkek. Meeting at the airport. Transfer to the city for breakfast.

Timetable:
• Osh Bazaar
• Short walk through Bishkek
• Burana Tower (X)
• Chong Kemin village
• Host greeting with tea and delicious local dishes

Day 2Chong Kemin - Char Valley (290 km)

Breakfast at the guesthouse.

Timetable:
• First stop in Konorchek canyon for a 3-hour hike
• Tree gorge for lunch in a typical silk route café
• Balykchy on the outskirts of the Issyk Kul-Meer
When the weather is nice a quick dive in the salt water
• Naryn City and stop at roadside stalls for fresh fruit and vegetables
• Char Valley
• Welcome by the host in the hidden valley at At-Bashy

Dinner and overnight stay in the guesthouse.

 

Day 3Char Valley - Kok Kyia Valley (140 km)

Breakfast at the guesthouse.

Timetable:
• Departure from Char Valley at 9 a.m.
• Through the unspoiled meadows in the Bosogo valley to the Kaingdy pass
• And from there to the wild Ak Say valley
• Military checkpoint – Kyrgyzstan-China border area
Picnic lunch on the way
• Arrival in the Kok Kyia valley
• Meeting with Meder and his family

Overnight stay in a shared yurt.

Day 4Kok Kyia Valley - Kel Suu Lake Chong Tash

Breakfast at the yurt camp.

Timetable:
• On horseback to the beautiful Kel Suu Lake, a natural dam
• It is possible to see birds of prey, ibexes, foxes and marmots
Lunch
• With the raft the Kel Suu More about
• Camp building next to Chong Tash

Dinner and accommodation in the tent camp.

*The lake may be empty (as in 2014, 2018). If the lake is empty, we will adjust the activities.

Day 5Exploring the Valley of the Five Boys

Breakfast in the tent camp.

Timetable:
• Valley of the five boys, very close to the border of China
• It is possible to see ibexes, Marco Polo sheep and wolves
• On the way to the nearby summit, lunch is served.
• Here you can discover new paths and hiking areas

Day 6Valley of the Five Boys - Kok Kyia

Breakfast in the tent camp.

Timetable:
• Packing your belongings on the back of a horse.
• Walk to the top of the Eshegart pass at 3933 meters
• Descend into the Tuyuk Boto Valley
• You will be able to see active wildlife in this very remote and wild region
• Late afternoon return to the Meder’s Yurt Camp
• Welcome with cups of hot tea and delicious local dishes

Day 7Kel Suu - Tash Rabat (265 km)

Breakfast at the yurt camp.

Timetable:
• Farewell of the family of Meder
• Objective: Tash Rabat, a Caravanserai from the time of the great Silk Road.
• Stop at At-Bashi, where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables at the small
bazaar. This is the last time you will see shops and internet for the next few days.
Lunch
• Tash Rabat where you are greeted by Nazira in her Yurtkamp
• We enjoy a banya, a local shower in Tash Rabat

Day 8Tash Rabat - Kok Bel Pass - Karakol Valley (80 km)

Breakfast at the yurt camp.

Timetable:
• Early departure by car to the Karakol River
The road is in a number of places quite rough and very adventurous
• Arrival at the Karakol River and meeting with the horsemen
• We start on the path of the wild Marco Polo sheep
• Once we have crossed the Karakol river we go to the Kok Bel pass at an altitude
of 3.915 meters. Crossing the Kok Bel pass is a bit of a challenge, but the
phenomenal view from the pass is one in a thousand.
Lunch
• Descent in the Karakol valley
• Building camp where the Karakol valley and the Arpa plain meet

Day 9Karakol Valley - Arpa Valley

Breakfast in the tent camp.

Timetable:
• Walk along the Fergana range
• It’s important to start early, because you have a lot of ground to cover. It is quite
a contrast to the last days of the trekking, where you can meet shepherds who
live off the land. It is possible that you will be invited for a cup of tea and bread at
the Yurtkamp on the way. The shepherds will be shocked to meet the hikers in
this area.
• Later in the day a camp will be built near a valley to protect everyone from the
strong winds in the Arpa valley.

Day 10Arpa Valley - Jylangash Valley

Breakfast in the tent camp.

Timetable:
• Descent into a lush wooded area rich in meadows with an abundance of small
rivers and lakes
• Later in the day you build a camp in the Jylangash valley with a beautiful view

Day 11Jylangash Valley - Chitty River

Breakfast in the tent camp.

Timetable:
• Start of a difficult trip to the Chitti Pass at 3,720 metres.
• The small path gradually climbs up and offers views of both sides of the Fergana
region. After this pass we enter another region in Kyrgyzstan. You will feel more
in a Mediterranean climate and the people we will meet along the way will have
more of a Uzbek flavour.
• The last resting place for the night is at the Chitty River

Day 12Chitti Valley - Osh (125 km)

Breakfast in the tent camp.

Timetable:
• Saying goodbye to our horsemen and leaving the Chitti valley
• On the way it is possible to meet beekeepers and taste a sample of the local
honey
• Meeting of the driver at the end of the path
• The final destination of the day is Osh City
Plovdiner in a chaykhana (café)

Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 13Osh - Departure

Breakfast at the hotel.

Timetable:
• Visit to the city of Osh
• The top of Mount Solomon
• 3000 year old bazaar of Osh

Departure. The local partner will take you to the airport.

Today you can fly back home from Osh or continue your trip to another neighbouring country. It is possible to make an international flight from Osh to Moscow and then back home.

*If you want to rent a flight from Osh to Bishkek with an airport pick-up and spend the night in a guesthouse and have yourself brought to the airport the next day, it costs USD 125 per person.

 

Kyrgyzstan officially the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyz: Кыргыз Республикасы, romanized: Kırğız Respublikası; ), is a country in Central Asia. Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country with mountainous terrain. It is bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west and southwest, Tajikistan to the southwest and China to the east. Its capital and largest city is Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan's recorded history spans over 2,000 years, encompassing a variety of cultures and empires. Although geographically isolated by its highly mountainous terrain, which has helped preserve its ancient culture, Kyrgyzstan has been at the crossroads of several great civilizations as part of the Silk Road and other commercial and cultural routes. Though long inhabited by a succession of independent tribes and clans, Kyrgyzstan has periodically fallen under foreign domination and attained sovereignty as a nation-state only after the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. The nation's largest ethnic group are the Kyrgyz, a Turkic people, who comprise (73.3%) of the population. Other ethnic groups include Russians (5.6%) concentrated in the north and Uzbeks (14.6%) living in the south. Small but noticeable minorities include Dungans (1.1%), Uyghurs (1.1%), Tajiks (1.1%), Kazakhs (0.7%), and Ukrainians (0.5%) and other smaller ethnic minorities (1.7%). The country has over 80 ethnic groups.
